New Data Reveals Atlantic Canada Attracting more Newcomers while Ontario reports the Highest Provincial Retention Rates

A Statistics Canada report confirms the emergence of Atlantic Canada as a preferred province among newcomers while positioning Ontario as the province with the highest retention rates.

Ontario emerged as the top Canadian province with the highest provincial retention rates in the newly released data by Statistics Canada.

The provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba had a steep decline in retention rates, according to the report. Manitoba showed a drop of 11 percent, while the decline of Saskatchewan’s retention rate was 14 percent.

Three Canadian provinces topped the list of provinces with the highest retention rates. These are:

Ontario

British Columbia

Alberta

Ontario reported the highest provincial retention rate at 93.1 percent.

The retention rates in Atlantic Canada are growing as more newcomers prefer to settle in:

Nova Scotia

New Brunswick

Prince Edward Island

Newfoundland and Labrador

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program’s launch in 2019 contributed to the higher retention rates in Atlantic Canada. The regional economic immigration pathway of the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) attracts skilled foreign workers to Atlantic Canada. Newcomers can benefit from the tailored settlement plan for their families and a job offer from a designated Atlantic Canada employer.
