Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) adopts stringent measures to maintain and strengthen the integrity of Canada’s International Student Program.
IRCC begins the implementation of strict measures such as verification of the Letters of Acceptance (LOAs) by launching a dedicated portal. The online portal will enable Designated Learning Institutions to verify LOAs that are part of study visa applications.
DLIs must validate the Letters of Acceptance within ten days for smooth processing of student visa applications. Schools will have no access to LOA validation after the expiration of the deadline. Failure to verify the LOA will cause cancellation of the study visa application.
The new measure will prevent the submission of false letters of acceptance (LOAs) to abuse the International Student Program. The fraudulent practice caused hardships to several students desiring to pursue study programs in Canada. Hundreds of Indian students faced prospects of deportation in a much-hyped scam involving the use of fake Letters of Acceptance by fraudulent immigration agents last year.
IRCC is implementing a two-tiered system under its Trusted Institutions Framework for Designated Learning Institutions. The framework will help trusted institutions expedite study permit processing and will come into effect by the fall of 2024. IRCC plans to restrict the number of student visas to enhance the client experience.
