Canada welcomed 118,095 Indians as permanent residents in 2022, tripling the number of Indians arriving in Canada in 2020, which was 42,870.
Indian immigrants to Canada will reach the milestone of 2 million this year. A steep rise in more Indians choosing Canada for immigration resulted in 118,095 Indians becoming permanent residents in 2022, against 32,828 in 2013. The total number of Indian PR holders between 2013 and 2022 was 19,89,535. In 2022, 59,503 Indian Permanent Residents became Canadian citizens.
Canada is the top destination for most Indian immigrants
Several factors contribute to the notable proportion of Indian citizens preferring Canada as their favorite destination to study, work, and settle. The vibrant Indian middle-class population has the relevant education, language skills, and settlement funds necessary for a Canada visa.
The restrictive immigration policies of the Trump government encouraged many Indians to choose Canada to pursue higher education, work, and permanent residence. Canada implements several immigration-friendly policies, attracting eligible candidates from foreign countries.
Express Entry is Canada’s application management system, which opened a helpful avenue to facilitate the immigration of candidates by ranking them according to critical selection factors.
India continues to be Canada’s top-sourcing nation for global talent. A third of the total immigrants in 2021 were Indian citizens. The contribution of Indian immigrants rose to almost fifty percent in 2022. International Mobility Program, and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, helped over 140,000 Indians become Canadian immigrants last year.
