Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a new measure to strengthen Canada’s family unification strategy.
The new policy will qualify spouses and dependants of Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students living in Canada to apply for an Open Work Permit. The new policy of Outland Sponsorship will benefit applicants from outside Canada as they can apply for an Open Work Permit. Earlier, the Open Work Permit facility was available only for inland sponsorship. The eligibility to apply for an open work permit covers temporary residents in Canada who share the same address as their Canadian sponsor.
The new policy to allow outland sponsorship is boosting several family reunification measures by Canada. Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) aims to expedite Temporary Resident Visa applications of spousal applicants. IRCC is introducing dedicated processing tools to help spousal applicants. Open Work Permit holders can extend work permits if the validity of their current work permit is expiring between August 1 and December 31, 2023. Canada strives to reunite families faster by enabling new immigrant family members to work and support their families in Canada. The family reunification policy of Canada aims to boost Canada’s economy while strengthening family ties.
